Life and Seoul

After Christmas in Daejeon and a Boxing Day spent playing games with the kids at school, we headed off to Seoul for the term break. We stayed with friends at the main institute of our school as the guest housing was at full capacity with the new teachers for the following term; around 60 of them compared to our measly group of 14!

The bus, which usually takes under two hours. took three in the snow. We went out for a lovely Japanese meal, a couple of drinks and then off to bed.

Our decision to have a day doing touristy things seemed like a great idea at the time, but it turned out to be the coldest week of the year so far, and it was REALLY cold! We wrapped up warmly in several layers, coat, scarf, gloves and two pairs of socks, and left for Changdeokgung Palace. It was amazing to see it covered in snow on such a crisp, clear day, but after a half hour walk around we had to huddle in the souvenir shop for another half hour to thaw out!

We had then planned to go to the National Museum of Korea which we thought was nearby, but when we looked at the map of the area it was nowhere to be seen. So instead, we headed to the Folk Museum which was nearby. It had some very interesting exhibits, including one on wedding traditions and costumes from all over Asia, and honestly we were just glad to be out of the cold for an extended period of time.

We later went for dinner and drinks in Hongdae, a 'trendy' university area, with some friends.
